State of Maine CDL Requirements

In order to obtain a CDL license in the State of Maine you are required to be at least 16 years of age to operate a commercial motor vehicle on public routes. You must have a clean driving record in order to qualify. A Department of Transportation physical must be conducted every 2 years to stay in compliance with DOT. In order to qualify for a Hazardous materials endorsement you are required to be at least 21 years of age or to drive interstate (cross country).

CDL testing in the state of Maine is very similar to other states. You must successfully inspect your vehicle, which is also known as a pre-trip inspection. You will also be tested on your basic control maneuvers and actual public road driving skills.

It costs $35 to apply for a commercial CDL license in Maine. Each additional endorsement is $10.00 per. Examples of these additional endorsements are as follows: HazMat, Tankers, Doubles/Triples, Passenger, etc.
