State of New Hampshire CDL Requirements
"Commercial motor vehicle'' shall mean a motor vehicle or a combination of motor vehicles, used in commerce, designed or used to transport passengers or property if:
(a) The vehicle has a GVW rating or gross combination weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds.
(b) The vehicle such as a bus, that is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
(c) The vehicle is of any size and is used in the transportation of materials found to be hazardous for the purposes of 49 CFR part 172, subpart F.
II. The term commercial motor vehicle does not include the following:
(a) Emergency vehicles such as fire trucks that are assigned and registered to the fire department. Furthermore, the vehicle must be driven by a by fire service personnel in pursuit of fire service purposes.
(b) Recreational vehicles - i.e. motor homes.
(c) Military vehicles when driven by non-civilian military personnel in pursuit of military purposes.
(d) Vehicles used exclusively for agriculture and farming.
You must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a CDL license in the state of New Hampshire. Persons between the ages of 18 and 20 will only be able to utilize their CDL within the state of New Hampshire or the state that their CDL was issued in. Persons that qualify for a CDL and are at least 21 years of age are eligible for interstate commerce. You must also be 21 to haul placarded hazardous materials.
