The Process
To receive your CDL, you must meet the above requirements and pass the Alaska knowledge test(s) for the CDL license you want.
After you pass your test(s), you will receive a CDL temporary instruction permit that will allow you to practice driving with a qualified CDL holder at the driving school of your choice. You must wait 14 days between receiving your permit and applying for your license.
Pay your state fees, and pass your practical skills tests: a vehicle inspection test, the basic controls test, and the road test. The skills tests must be taken in a vehicle representative of the one you will be driving once licensed. Return to the DMV counter for your documentation to be processed. Your license will be given to you then or mailed.
